Deep-Fried Crispy Whitebait Recipe

Deep-Fried Crispy Whitebait Recipe Ingredients:
  • 1 lb Fresh Whitebait
  • 1/2 cup Cornstarch
  • Oil - for deep frying
  • Salt - to taste
  • 1 Lemon - cut into wedges for garnish
    Ponzu Dipping Sauce - to serve


Time: 25 min
Serves: 4

Deep-Fried Crispy Whitebait Recipe Instructions:

  • Rinse, drain and pat the whitebait dry, then place it in a small bowl or plastic bag with the cornstarch.
     

  • Coat the whitebait with the cornstarch by mixing it gently or shaking the bag. Place the coated whitebait in a colander or sieve and shake gently to remove excess cornstarch.
     

  • Deep-fry a handful of the whitebait at a time in very hot oil until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with salt, if using.
     

  • Serve with lemon wedges and the Ponzu Dipping Sauce on the side.
